MARAÑUELAS, THE PERFECT SWEET FOR TEA TIME!

These lovely little biscuits come from a small town in the north of Spain called Luanco.

They are the perfect surprise for your guests if they pop by at the typical English tea time.
Once you taste them you won´t want stop eating! They leave a lovely flavour on the palate.

The origins of marañuelas can be explained in some Spanish traditions:

In the 18th century, godparents celebrated Easter by treating their godchildren to these gifts – and lots of attention! It’s a practice that is still alive!

At the beginning of the 20th century, people in Spain used to send marañuelas to their families that had emigrated to countries like Cuba and Argentina because these sweet biscuits keep for a long time.

The last tradition is also from the early 20th century, when it was a common practice between a young man to court his girls with marañuelas. As you can see love is present in each corner of our lives.

Enjoy your next tea time!
