THANKSGIVING DAY

Today is Thanksgiving day, a special day for American people. It's celebrated every year on the fourth Thursday in November. It's one of the most famous celebrations and holidays of the year, along with Christmas day and the New Year's Eve.

People celebrate this particular party for a few reasons. There is some controversy over its origins, which are rooted in a mix of European and American traditions.
One of these reasons is to give thanks to God after the end of the Civil War, a really hard-fought war that damaged a lot the country.
Another reason is to give thanks to God, but in this case for the particularly good crop taht people had in these years, and that the Spanish conquerors that came to the new continent found food to survive there and to share with natives.
This point is really interesting if we take into account that this special day is not currently celebrated in Spain.

The typical food of this celebration varies, but one of the main courses is the roasted turkey, with sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, sweet-corn and a lot of vegetables. This celebrations is so important for American people that mos people have the day off work and commercial centres and stores don't open. It's like the national day!
